✨ Introduction
Dining at Disney has become just as exciting as the rides, and during our recent 5-day Disney World trip, we made it our mission to experience a mix of signature dining, character meals, cocktails, snacks, and iconic park favorites.
Some meals completely exceeded expectations, a few were just okay, and there are definitely reservations we’d book again immediately on our next trip.
This time around, we intentionally mixed upscale dining experiences with quick-service meals and classic Disney snacks to create a more balanced trip.
Here’s everything we ate at Disney World—plus what was actually worth it.
🏨 Where We Stayed
Disney's Contemporary Resort
Disney’s Contemporary Resort remains our family’s favorite place to stay—and for good reason. The location is simply unbeatable.
Guests can hop on the Monorail or take a quick 8-minute walk directly into Magic Kingdom, bypassing the main entrance crowds with a much calmer security checkpoint. That convenience alone is a game changer, especially with kids.
Why We Love It:
- Walking distance to Magic Kingdom
- Monorail access to parks and dining
- Family-friendly pool with waterslide and splash pad
- Quiet pool option for downtime
- Convenient quick-service dining and cocktail bar
We specifically recommend staying in the Garden Wing. After reading reviews about noise and elevator delays in the main tower, this ended up being the perfect choice. It’s quieter, more relaxed, and the Bay Lake views make it feel like a true escape after busy park days.
🍽️ Signature Dining Experiences
🌅 Narcoossee’s
Atmosphere
Narcoossee’s offers an upscale coastal atmosphere with panoramic views overlooking Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom. The large windows, waterfront setting, and relaxed elegance make this an ideal first-night Disney dinner.
Service was attentive and polished without feeling overly formal, and the crowd reflected the elevated feel of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
Accessible by Monorail or boat, the location itself feels like part of the experience.
What We Ordered
- Ocean-inspired charcuterie board
- Surf and turf with butter-poached lobster
- Classic cocktails and wine
- Chocolate sourdough bread pudding
- Almond-crusted cheesecake
Honest Review
The ocean-inspired charcuterie board was imaginative, flavorful, and one of the most memorable appetizers of the trip.
The butter-poached lobster was perfectly cooked, and the demi-glace served with the steak was exceptional. While the entrées were excellent, the sides lacked the same level of execution.
Still, this reservation is absolutely worth it for the ambiance, service, food quality, and waterfront views.
Recommended For
This is an ideal first-night Disney dinner reservation. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing after a travel day, and staying for the fireworks adds an extra layer of Disney magic.
🌇 California Grill
Atmosphere
California Grill remains our favorite signature dining experience at Disney.
Located at the top of the Contemporary Resort, the restaurant offers breathtaking panoramic views of Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom, especially during sunset and fireworks.
The atmosphere feels elevated but still approachable, and service here consistently goes above and beyond.
What We Ordered
- Sushi selections
- Duck Thai curry
- Oak-grilled filet of beef with roasted garlic potato purée, broccolini, and truffle-cognac demi
- Flourless chocolate espresso cake
- French cheese plate
- Espresso martinis and classic cocktails
Honest Review
The filet with truffle-cognac demi was the standout dish of the evening. The truffle flavor was subtle but beautifully balanced.
Cocktails here deserve their own recognition. The espresso martini, dirty martini, and Old Fashioned were some of the best we’ve had anywhere—not just at Disney. The wine list was also impressive.
Servers are happy to accommodate adjustments to the prix-fixe menu, which made the experience feel especially personalized.
Would We Go Back?
Always. California Grill continues to be our favorite Disney dining experience and remains worth the hefty price tag.
Recommended For
Adults, couples, celebrations, and families looking for an elevated Disney dining experience with unforgettable fireworks views.
👑 Cinderella’s Royal Table
Dining inside Cinderella Castle truly feels magical, especially for families with little princesses.
Guests begin the experience with a meet-and-greet photo opportunity with Cinderella before heading upstairs into the castle dining room.
This experience is offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and reservations remain some of the hardest to secure at Disney.
We prefer lunch because it provides a perfect midday break from the Florida heat while still maximizing park time.
Character Interactions Included:
- Cinderella
- Jasmine
- Merida
- Aurora
- Ariel
Food Highlights
- Shrimp cocktail with spicy cocktail sauce
- Lamb chops cooked perfectly
- Chicken roulade with white wine truffle butter
- “Clock Strikes Twelve” chocolate ganache tart with salted caramel coffee mousse
What Surprised Us
This was our third visit to Cinderella’s Royal Table, and the food was significantly better than previous trips.
The dishes felt more thoughtful and refined instead of mass-produced banquet-style meals. Combined with the character interactions, this finally felt like an experience where the food matched the price point.
🌺 Other Dining Experiences
‘Ohana
We opted for breakfast at ‘Ohana for the character experience, and it ended up being one of the easiest and most enjoyable meals of the trip.
What to Expect
- Visits from Stitch, Lilo, Mickey, and Pluto
- Family-style service
- Generous portions
- Fun Polynesian atmosphere
Standout Items
- Pineapple bread
- Glazed ham
- Biscuits
- Mickey and Stitch waffles
The food quality exceeded expectations, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and family-friendly.
Next time, we’d love to return to try the dinner menu.
🌐 EPCOT Food
🍕 Via Napoli
Via Napoli ended up being the perfect midday escape from the rain and crowds during our EPCOT day.
What We Loved
- Authentic wood-fired pizza
- Charred, airy crust with fresh ingredients
- Excellent cocktails
- Kid-friendly atmosphere
- Open kitchen concept
The espresso martini made with Lavazza espresso was genuinely one of the best we’ve ever had—even compared to cocktails back home in Chicago.
Reservations can be difficult to secure, especially during peak lunch hours, but this meal was absolutely worth adjusting our schedule for.
🎬 Hollywood Studios Snacks + Drinks
🍹 Oga’s Cantina
Oga’s Cantina feels less like a restaurant and more like stepping directly into a Star Wars film.
What to Know
- Drinks are creative but can be overly sweet
- Food menu is limited to small snacks
- The atmosphere is the real draw
What We Recommend
- Bloody Rancor
- Corellian Spike Cold Brew
- Umbaran Cheese Roll
- Batuu Bites
Our daughter especially loved the Blue Bantha drink and cheese-stuffed pretzel.
The experience lasts about 45 minutes, making it manageable even with younger kids.
🎢 Best Snacks We Grabbed Between Rides
- Cheeseburger Egg Rolls in Magic Kingdom — we stopped twice for these and would absolutely do it again.
- Mickey Pretzels with cheese — classic, salty, and always worth it.
- Mickey Ice Cream Bars — the perfect poolside afternoon treat.
- Bao buns in EPCOT’s China Pavilion — flavorful and easy to share.
- Joffrey’s donuts and boozy espresso martinis — ideal midday pick-me-up.

The improved food quality combined with the princess experience made this surprisingly worth the splurge.
💸 What Was Worth the Splurge?
Worth It
Both Cinderella’s Royal Table and ‘Ohana exceeded expectations for character dining. The food quality finally matched the premium pricing.
Maybe Skip
The fish and chips in EPCOT were greasy and underwhelming, and next time we’d opt for something more unique.
Better Than Expected
The Sand Bar poolside quick-service restaurant at the Contemporary surprised us with fresh salads, wraps, and convenient options between park breaks.
